The KOUP is a cab-forward two-door in a similar vein as the Honda Civic, but fortunately or unfortunately, that's not where the similarities end. The front fascia is a nice amalgamation of the Euro-Civic, with a few cues that are strikingly similar to Mitsubishi's current gaping maw.
The beltline, beginning beneath the carbon fiber wing mirrors, plummets to define the slightly sculpted sides and terminates into a Lancer-like rear end. Naturally, Kia saw fit to outfit the KOUP with a handful of typical concept elements, including a panoramic glass roof, carbon fiber diffusers (front and rear) and Brembo calipers with cross-drilled rotors.

A self-effacing and impeccably dressed Bob Lutz took shots at the old Pontiac during the live reveal of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe. Busting on the arrowhead's former taste for cladding and Iron Dukes in the "excitement" product line, Lutz confidently strode alongside a silver 2009 Solstice GXP Coupe as it rolled out amidst fanfare provided by the Young Lords.

The Solstice Coupe replaces the world's flimsiest soft-top setup with a composite targa panel. 50-Cent also made an appearance and touted the performance of the GXP-trim Solstice, saying "It's faster than a Porsche Boxster. For $30,000 ... pick this one, not that one," while pointing at the Porsche display. The look of the Solstice Coupe is definitely zoomy - think of a C3 Corvette left in the dryer too long and you get the idea.

Pontiac G8 Sport Truck
Again with musical accompaniment from the Young Lords, Maximum Bob Lutz heralded the return of the El Camino Pontiac G8 Sport Truck to the U.S. market for the first time in over two decades. Joining Lutz to make the sales case for how wonderful the new G8 ST was Fifty Cent who the company claims is a loyal Pontiac owner.
The platform is a longer wheelbase version of the one under the G8 sedan, and the suspension remains all-independent, although the rear end has been beefed up to provide some load carrying and towing capacity.

Ok here is my opinion... Does anyone really listen to customers, or is it just a few who just speak loadly, or do auto exec's just have pet projects that they want to hang there hat on. While the Pontiac G8 Sport Truck is nifty and quick and will certainly get certain gear heads going, harkening back to the good 'ol days of the 60 and 70's...
No One Is Going To Buy This Vehicle, not in todays market anyway. The Pontiac exec's will tell you, that this is a niche vehicle that is designed to get attention to the brand, however they should be focused on getting attention to there bottom line and the dealers bottom line. This vehicle is doomed before it even gets started... Oh and too bad because it does impress...

Transit Connect Taxi Concept
Where better than New York for Ford to show off a taxicab? And what better platform than the company's new Transit Connect van? Ford's Mark Fields and designer J. Mays were on hand for the unveiling of the Transit Connect Taxi Concept, and both were somehow amazed at the applause. Seeing as how there were only a handful of us there and that the rest of the crowd consisted of Ford employees, we find it hard to believe there wouldn't be applause aplenty.
Seriously though, this is one fun cab. After spending some time in the regular fleet of bumblebee-colored Crown Vics this past week, we can attest that the Transit has a lot of things that make it a natural improvement over standard taxis. Our favorite was the panoramic roof that allows passengers to take in tall buildings with a single glance, but we also liked the flexible seating and cargo configurations, as well as the funky interactive infotainment system for the back seat.

Here it is, the 2009 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. We can hardly contain our enthusiasm over this car. On the one hand, Hyundai is offering enthusiasts the only rear-wheel-drive coupe on the market powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder (not all of us want our hair ruffled in RWD four-cylinder convertibles like the Mazda MX-5, GM's Kappa convertibles and the Honda S2000).
While on the other, it's also debuting a RWD coupe powered by a 306-horsepower 3.8L V6 (310 hp when drinking premium) that should undercut all similarly powered competition by thousands of dollars. The Genesis Coupe is a win-win car no matter which engine you choose.

Ever since Nissan took the Altima upmarket in both size and prize, the Maxima has suffered from an identity crisis. In the Nissan/Infiniti lineup, this premium front-wheel-drive sports sedan suffered a middle-child syndrome while slotted between the less-expensive yet still capable Altima and the more aspirational rear-wheel-drive Infiniti G35 sports sedan.

Nissan hopes to give the Maxima a new voice in its crowded lineup of large sedans with the new 2009 model that comes in your choice of a 3.5 S or 3.5 SV trim. Clearly, it packs a visual punch. The new design is something Nissan calls "Liquid Motion". It's dynamic, for sure, with peaks and valleys among flowing lines and sharp creases that combine to form a muscular shape.

Slated to slot below the hardcore S7 in Saleen's lineup, the S5S Raptor looks no less the part of a high-powered high-performance sports car. It's powered by a supercharged 5.0L engine mounted amidships producing around 650 horsepower and 630 lb-ft. of churn on a steady diet of E85 ethanol.

By mid-2009, Nissan plans to cover the entire gamut of the automotive spectrum, ranging from the compact Cube to the supercar-fighting GT-R. That's the word from Nissan as they announced that the new Cube will come to the US market next year to fill the void left behind by the dearly departed first gen Scion xB.

Just My Opinion...
Do the fine folks at Nissan really think that they can retail this new cube... Have they seen or payed any attention to what happened with the Toyota or I should say Scion (and Honda Too). The demographics were totally missed and the older folks who did purchase them can't trade out of them and do not want another one, they are upside down (no equity)... this is such a small market segment, why play in it....
The only folks that may want to take a stab at this failed segment would be commercial businesses/utility companies/municipalities, they could use them for delivery/transportation because of the size in cities or advertising marketing agencies wanting to push a product.... this is such a failed concept in America it is not even funny... can you say H1!

At the 2008 New York International Auto Show, Mitsubishi revealed it is looking to the U.S. market as a possible fit for the company’s tiny 4-passenger car, the i. And if there’s a place for the diminutive car on U.S. roads, then perhaps there might also be a market for an electric version.
Already sold in Japan where it has gained considerable popularity, the i-car is about 10 inches shorter than a MINI Cooper but makes excellent use of available space. Four adult passengers fit easily in the i-car, while still allowing for a bit of cargo — although only a grocery bag or two. Headroom is quite plentiful due to the i-car’s shape.
The shape is even possible in this small of a package because the engine sits below the floor and just forward of the rear axle. This allowed designers to give the rear-wheel-drive i-car a larger passenger compartment while putting the wheels at the corners.
The other advantage to this rear-mid engine layout: converting to an electric version of the i-car does not require any major structural changes. So Mitsubishi replaced the gasoline-powered engine with an electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries stored under the floor. This new version of the i-car is called the i-MIEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle).
An even more interesting advantage when converting the i-car into the i-MIEV: With the batteries in the floor, the center of gravity is lowered so much the electric version actually handles better than its gas-powered sibling.
Mitsubishi plans to put the i-MIEV on sale in Japan late next year, but to get an early indication of the viability of this car in America, the company brought a few cars to the New York show. MSN Autos' editors got the chance to take this little car for a spin around Manhattan and found the car would probably feel right at home zipping and lunging between the taxicabs of the Big Apple.
On the Road
The i-MIEV is unnervingly quiet, even for an electric car. However, it operates just like any other car: Turn the key, shift into Drive, and away it goes.
Because electric cars provide peak torque almost immediately, the i-MIEV is quick. During our test drive we had no problem keeping up with New York traffic, since the i-MIEV can accelerate from a standstill faster than most larger cars.
The i does feel quite small going wheel-to-wheel with mammoth delivery trucks, SUVs and taxis, but being small has definite advantages in the city. During our drive we rolled up to a taxi that had broken down in the middle of the street. A larger car would have had to turn around, but at less than five feet wide the i-MIEV easily maneuvered around the disabled cab.
Mitsubishi claims the range of the current lithium-ion batteries to be around 80 miles. Charge time varies depending on the power source. To fully charge the i-MIEV with a standard 110 outlet takes about 14 hours. Hooking up to a 220 volt power source — common in most houses for plugging in the clothes dryer — cuts the time to seven hours. Quick chargers are currently being developed that could cut the time to 30 minutes.
Mitsubishi will be leaving a few of these electric i-MIEVs in the U.S. for fleet testing with a utility company, and will continue to assess the market for small cars as well as electric cars.

If you belong to the segment of the population that thinks that the newly-offered-in-America smart fortwo is not manly enough, adding a wind-up key accessory to the hind-end of your new city car isn't likely to help. For those of you who couldn't care less what other people think of you (and think that the idea of adding a wind-up key to your cute car makes it über-cute), may we suggest going to distance and choosing the version which is actually powered, so it "un-winds" as you drive. You know, if you're going to do something, you may as well just do it right.

MY MY MY... What is up Chrysler...
Quality is no longer a differentiator, “it’s the price of admission,” suggests Dr. David Cole, director of the Center for Automotive Research. And, if you don’t deliver, you could face serious problems. Just ask Chrysler, which took a solid body blow from the folks at Consumer Reports magazine, earlier this year, the highly-influential publication burying the troubled automaker in the bottom ranks in its annual automotive survey.
A poor showing in CR, as well as in other recent quality studies certainly isn’t helping the automaker reverse the steady decline in its sales and market share. But Chrysler is hoping it can improve its tarnished image by dealing directly with skeptical consumers.
The automaker is setting up a new Online Customer Advisory Board that it describes as an industry first in a effort to bring consumers into the product development process. Deborah Meyer, the company’s vice president and chief marketing officer, says the objective of the board is to create a dialogue with customers and gain their insights on product features and technologies. The forum is closed and Chrysler is now recruiting members for the board, she said.
“Chrysler designers and engineers have always had a pulse on the market to deliver segment-leading products, but the launch of the Customer Advisory Board gives us a new way to connect with our customers to be even more responsive and innovative,” Meyer said, adding that, “We have a new platform to engage our customers in two-way dialogue so we can harness their insights and vehicle dreams as we move quickly to develop and refine technologies and products.”
Dubbed Passenger, the high-tech “platform will help Chrysler spark innovation and satisfy a shared desire for meaningful change through ongoing collaboration with its customers,” predicted Justin Cooper, co-founder and chief of innovation and marketing at Passenger, the Los Angeles firm that helping Chrylser launch and manage the site. “Involving customers in the process promotes active participation and those customers who feel more informed have the ability to share more favorable opinions about Chrysler with their peers, the truest form of advocacy,” he said.
Joe DiMeglio, vice president of Organic, Chrysler’s online ad agency, said, “”Brands that listen thoughtfully to their customers and put them in the middle of their organizations will win in this era where the customer’s voice is both strong and visible. We are incredibly excited about this ground-breaking initiative and helping Chrysler gain an even deeper understanding of their customers-the foundation of all exceptional brand experiences,” he said.
To participate in the Customer Advisory Board, consumers are invited to submit an application at www.ChryslerListens.com. Participants must be 18 years or older, a United States resident and hold a valid driver’s license.
Beginning in late-March, Chrysler will begin the initial phase of the Customer Advisory Board, which is a three to four week period when Chrysler will introduce the members to the process and the company.
Once introduced, Chrysler will begin the ongoing dialogue with the Customer Advisory Board members by engaging the community with live, facilitated sessions where they may view media, respond to polls and engage with other members. There will also be discussion sections that allow members to discuss a variety of topics such as quality, safety or technology on their own time during a four-week period. BMW Ms Getting Four-Cylinders?
Today’s BMW M3 does some wonderful things with a V-8 engine — but enthusiasts, owners, and now apparently, even management think that the M cars need to get back to their small-engine roots.
Motor Authority reports that the German automaker’s CEO Norbert Reithofer has some interesting plans ahead for all of BMW, not just the M cars. For the mainstream Bimmer lineup, Reithofer wants to eliminate diesel V-8 engines entirely.
But for the M cars the changes could be more drastic. Instead of moving up into V-8s and V-10s, Reithofer hinted that he’d like six-cylinder turbos, like those found in the 3-Series and 1-Series, to power future M cars. To go along with the downsized engines, the cars would also have to become lighter, which would help reduce emissions and fuel economy as well.
The original M3, if you remember back 20 years, was a flyweight powered by a four-cylinder engine. Times have changed — and as I said in my M3 review from last summer, the new M3 is certainly faster than before, “but is it better?”

Check This Out!
Take this one as a hoot — or a scary indicator of what CAFE will do to America’s beloved pickup truck. It’s a 1967 Daihatsu Tri-Mobile, a three-wheeler that’s outfitted with 12 horsepower and a cute factor that eclipses any Corbin Sparrow.
The California seller says the Tri-Mobile is one of a wave of microcars from the 196s that “get more smiles per gallon” than any other car, and points to the Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum as one of the few places you can see another example. Only a handful were made in left-hand drive and imported to the U.S., and this rust-free example is the only one we could find for sale after a half-hour cruising around on Google.
While we’re not ready to give up our Prius just yet, the charms of the Tri-Mobile shine right through its peeling paint, applied over the original yellow color it was delivered in, as a vehicle used by the California Department of Parks and Recreation. On its third owner, the current title holder still has the original “pink slip.” It sports two seats, a one-cylinder two-stroke engine, and a three-speed manual gearbox. Considered a three-wheel motorcycle truck by the California DMV, the Tri-Mobile only requires a regular old car license to operate on roads–but the wisdom of stepping into anything other than stop-and-go traffic is to be questioned.
The pickup bed on this one is in sturdy shape. There might be a dozen left in the U.S. and the owner says he doesn’t doubt its clocked mileage of 23,161. So if you can get over the passing resemblance to the tuk-tuks that hammer around Bangkok, emitting more smoke than the trannie bar mamas, post your bid and maybe in three days, it’ll be yours. Take that with your 35-mpg rules, Congress!

"Pennsylvania Pulls Plug On Voter Site After Personal Data Leak

Pennsylvania was forced to pull the plug on a voter registration Web site after it was found to be leaking private information about voters in the state. The security breach occurred with the presidential primary for that state a mere month away.
The shut down resulted from an improperly designed online voter registration form that was initially intended to simplify the process of registering to vote. Potential voters were allowed to input their information onto the Web site, after which they would have a printable receipt that they could mail to state election officials. Unfortunately, a design error allowed anyone to view the forms online. The forms contained personal information such as name, address, political party affiliation and driver's license number.
After learning about the security holes, Pennsylvania's Department of State immediately shut down the Web site.
Department of State spokeswoman Leslie Amoros assured the public with the following e-mail statement:
'The Department is reviewing the facts to determine how this information became available.' she said. 'We are also taking all necessary steps to co! rrect th e situation and are implementing processes aimed to prevent future occurrences.'
This situation has done little to boost confidence in the security of online registration, with many already choosing not to relinquish personal information of any kind for precisely this reason.

It's The Economy Stupid!!!
I just love periodicals and what someone wants to pass off as a news article informing consumer of what to watch for when shopping at your local car dealership.
I read recently an article written for... well for right now I'll keep the news agency's name to myself... But the article's author states in glorious consumer friendly terms how consumers should purchase there next vehicle towards the end of the month (the author is a analyst for a financial services firm) because among other things, that sales managers do not have the pressure of making the sale early on in the month because of end of the month bonuses and inventory pressure from incoming units coming in next month...HUH! This is another lame uninformed individual who has no idea what happens within the confines of a retail auto dealership. AUTO DEALERSHIPS HAVE INVENTORY COMING IN CONSTANTLY... Plus any Sales Manager worth his weight has an early bird incentive at the beginning of the month to jump start his month...or at the least weekly spiffs/bonuses.
The facts are this, auto dealerships are under constant strain to produce DAILY!... not at the end of the month... heck you don't have to be in the retail auto industry to understand sales... a successful retail auto dealership is not going to wait around waiting and hoping that a costumer will come back (be-back is the vernacular that is used in the industry, you get fairy dust with every be-back...FYI) at the end of the month... any sales person worth their salt will make every effort to make a sale happen right now, regardless of the time of month. In addition the cost of holding on to a vehicle when you have a customer in this market who desires the vehicle, far out ways any end of month effort to push the vehicle out the door, the fact is this... the dealership makes more money the less days the vehicle is in inventory... not the more days as the article implies, there is a daily cost associated with the vehicle (floor plan [interest] rate, insurance cost, etc...), in addition to a host of other weighty matters... yes there may be incentives to make bonuses at the end of a month, however in a market where customers are few and far between and an economy that is shaky and individuals not purchasing or leasing many vehicles these days... the incentive to make a sale happen is now!
It's the economy that creates the motivation for the delaership to move inventory... and in this economy every sale every day is important!
I wish the people who knew what they were talking about wrote the national articles, not someone sitting in an office or sitting at there home who has only visited a auto dealership as a consumer... GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT OR ASK SOMEBODY....

I chose the quote made famous by Teddy Roosevelt because as I read automotive related articles and view and hear automotive related radio and television programs and their "so called experts", it has become abundantly clear that these individuals who comment and have views on the various automotive related subjects...have not been "in the arena" especially as it relates to retailing and distribution topics, these individuals have or are self ordained experts and have been merely sitting on the sidelines. I thought... don't you actually have to be in a field and to have had your "face marred by dust and sweat and blood" of an industry to be even considered an expert. I thought would someone believe a medical expert, who never went to med school... so why do people buy into the notion that a financial expert who merely watches auto industry trends knows what happens at a retail auto dealership... have they been "in the arena"...
Life is shaped and influenced by perspective and what I have to say will give you another perspective, one from someone who has been "in the arena"...for over 25 years!
I am the guy that started selling auto's as opposed to selling copiers or soap for P&G coming out of college, because I wanted to own my own business...
